SECURITY FOR COMMONWEALTH GAMES
The capital Delhi is keeping no stone unturned to make the upcoming mega event-Commonwealth Games 2010, a successful one. Government is planning a universal security outlay in every nook and corner of the state.
Delhi Police has revealed about a four-layer cordon for the Games Village, located near the Akshardham Temple, at the Noida intersection roadway. The venues will be coupled with extensive aerial reconnaissance. Adding more to the conversation, Mr. Neeraj Kumar, Special Commissioner of Police(Administration) said that all venues relating to the Games would be furnished with tight security at the outer, middle, inner and exclusive levels.
The outer cordon is developed with the monitoring the park and ride facility. Security measures like checking of tickets and surveillance through CCTV(closed-circuit television camera) will be added.
The
security in the middle cordon is a bit different. Here, visitors will be
channelized to the designated seats at the Games venues. Apart from
Electronic surveillance, snipers will be systematized on the entire roof of
the venues.At the inner level, tickets will be rechecked by means of special barcode screening and snaps of the spectators. A pre-alloted radio frequency identification, under vehicle detector and license plate scanners will be arranged so as to check the vehicles of the organizers, VIPs, participants and visiting dignitary. Also, road blockers, boom barriers followed by tyre-killers will be used to avoid forcible entry.
Further, the entrance to the exclusive part are equipped with door-frame metal, X-ray baggage scanners, manual frisking, hand-held detectors and CCTV's. Sources also confirmed that explosive devices response team will be arranged at all major locations. Heli-borne assault teams will also guard the venue from October 3 till the last hour on October 14th, 2010.
COORDINATION SECURITY
To confirm full coordination among the built up security agencies, various centers like Control, Communication, Command, Coordination and Integration sections is being made at Delhi Police Headquarters. Each departments will remain interconnected through mobile phones, landlines, hot lines, Tetra trunk system and wireless sets.
The plan will also cover coordination with various civic, medical, security and intelligence agencies. The assigned team will control the security of 12 competition venues, 15 standalone practice venues, Games Village, 9 hotels for accommodating dignitaries, over 50 stand-alone parking sites, Pragati Maidan housing media and central logistical centers on Mathura Road.
A week prior to the commencement of Commonwealth games, newly developed hotels, residential complex and parking lots will be polished properly and remain closed. Preparation is also on process inside the hotel complex. Antecedents of the hotel staff will be checked by the security personnel. Food, before serving, will be tasted by the experts.
Delhi Police will provide an exclusive lane for vehicles servicing participants. The route will be guarded by the security personnel and alternative roads with devised elements will be planned.
Vehicles conveying athletes and officials will undergo anti-obstruct checks every morning. Antecedents of drivers will be verified and fueling will be allowed at designated parking lots. Visitors will be accompanied by the teams of armed commandos.
